Happiness and laughter is indeed the beautiful meaning of life. Young Mili, in spite of suffering from a chronic illness, spreads love and positivity in her little apartment-home neighborhood and teaches us this beautiful life lesson.

Miss Jaya makes us believe in Mili’s purity of heart, grace and joy. She is not just a favorite of children, but also manages to calm the heart of her trauma-struck neighbor Shekhar.

Shekhar is a raging alcoholic, facing the stigma of being the son of a murderer father, while grieving for his mother, a victim of not just murder but false character shaming. Angry young man of Bollywood, Mr Bachchan does the finest act of radiating bitterness, and transforming into pleasantness, with the playful and healing presence of Mili in his life.

Shekhar is no ungrateful lover. He stands by the woman who healed his heart and knowing of her illness, proposes marriage and takes her abroad for treatment. This is where the movie ends. We will never know if Mili recovers or not, and that’s the best ending, in my opinion. Because a happy ending isn’t always about life or death, it’s about the truimph of love, to stand for the right thing, no matter what lies ahead. Shekhar & Mili are “happily ever after” for me. Immortality is not an option for humans, love is, and that indeed is the only meaning of life. 🩷
